New York City, people say from other cities that New Yorkers are very rude and always in a rush. This is a very typical stereotype, my response is cry me a river . It is a way of life in New York and makes the city very unique and stands out from other cities. New Yorkers are very nice people, they are just busy and in a rush to get to a job or do everyday things like go to the grocery, take in a movie / Broadway show maybe, even hit the wonderful nightclubs and bars. Well with that being said the sound walk assignment was very relaxing . Walking around my neighborhood for half an hour without my cell phone reminded me of my childhood growing up in late 80's to the 90's when many people did not have cell phones only the rich with the huge cordless phone could of afford it at the time. Today, people cannot live without a cell phone especially, not answering or texting their phone for a half an hour it like water for them, people will die without their cell phones. For many people, this sound walk assignment could be very tough but, me just closing my eyes and hearing all the sounds was just peaceful.
I started out walking around my neighborhood but, I kept bumping into people that I knew and start to engage in conversation with them each time. Every time I had to start the sound walk assignment over and over again. One time while walking , I had my eyes closed and crashed into a park car just trying to focus on the sounds around me. I was walking around my neighborhood again with my eyes closed then I heard a guy scream out watch where you going jerk. I started to think and decided to do the sound walk assignment inside my neighborhood park which happens to be Prospect Park after that guy scream at me and to be safe. Prospect Park is very beautiful and just a nice place to have a picnic.
Walking around Prospect Park was very relaxing and finally, I was able to close my eyes and start to focus on the sounds around me. First thing, I heard was the wind then couple of birds chirping. I taught to myself for a second; I was in a Walt Disney movie. All of sudden I heard a loud pounding louder then the wind and a beeping sound. I then started walking away still having my eyes close and heard a construction truck backing up with the loud pounding. Still walking around the park then the construction noise with the loud pounding started to decrease and lowering the sounds as I kept walking . I heard the wind more clearly but it was getting louder and you could hear the wind howling. Pigeons , I heard flapping their wings then i heard some squirrels in the leaves that was on the ground ratting. The wind however, was still howling louder then the pigeons and squirrels.
I kept on walking with my eyes closed barely hearing a jet airplane that was flying by since the wind was still more louder then the airplane. I heard some ducks quacking and I knew where I was in the park while my eyes was still closed I was near the lake. The wind started to die down slowly decreasing its sound and i heard the ducks flying and splashing the water from the lake which had louder pitch in sound then wind since the wind was slowly dying down. The last thing I heard was ducks flying around quacking and the water waves moving slowly with some ducks occasionally, splashing in the water of the lake. At the end of the sound walk assignment the half an hour was up and I heard one or two crickets chirping noises which was lowest sound I heard during the assignment . I open my eyes after my watch started to beep indicting time was up and I started to walk back home and stop off at my chinese food place.
